The Choir
Imusicapella is an internationally outstanding church choir from Imus, the capital of Cavite province in the Philippines, and is considered the most highly awarded church choir in Asia.
Since its foundation in 2002, the choir has undertaken fourteen extensive tours and, under the direction of its founding choirmaster Tristan Caliston Ignacio, has won numerous choral competitions in Europe, Asia, and North America.
In 2024, the choir won both the renowned Béla Bartók Choir Competition in Debrecen, Hungary, and the International Baltic Sea Choir Competition in Jūrmala, Latvia. Most recently, they won the Grand Prix at the Palawan International Choral Festival 2025, and on October 26, 2025, Imusicapella was one of the finalists at the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Tolosa, Spain.
Imusicapella has so far released eight CDs: You are the Light (2003), Joy to the World (2003), One More Gift (2005), Cantate Domino (2011), I’ll Make Music (2015), Imagine (2018), Go The Distance (2019), and Under the Heavens (2024).
On their 2025 European tour, Imusicapella will perform with five sopranos, two altos, three countertenors, four tenors, and six basses. While there are some professional musicians in the choir's ranks, the majority of the singers pursue other professions.
The Repertoire
The choir's repertoire includes sacred and secular choral music from the Renaissance to the modern era. In addition to the classic chamber choir repertoire, mostly in Latin, Spanish, English, and German, there are impressive arrangements of Filipino folk music.
Another focus of Imusicapella's repertoire is thrilling choral arrangements from the genres of rock, pop, spiritual, and musical theater. Examples include titles like "Besame Mucho" by Consuelo Velázquez, "We Will Rock You" by Queen, "Permission To Dance" by Ed Sheeran / BTS, and Moses Hogan's "Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel?".
